GCRI Launch

The Graeme Clark Research Institute is a new multidisciplinary research institute established to conduct, facilitate and promote research and development within Tabor Adelaide in the broad context of Christian service to the community.
The Institute is named after the distinguished Australian surgeon, Dr Graeme Clark, a committed Christian, and 2010 recipient of the prestigious Lister Medal. Dr Clark pioneered the multi-channel cochlear implant for severe-to profound deafness, the first clinically successful sensory interface between the world and human consciousness.
The mission of the Institute is to build and sustain a community of research scholars – involving academic faculty and postgraduate students – who work together to foster and engage in activities that stimulate informed understanding and discussion of issues that concern:

  1. The harmonious relationship between science and faith.
  2. The proper role of religion in family, society, education, culture and politics.

This will be achieved through the following key activities:

  1. Scholarly publication of monographs, peer-reviewed journal articles and occasional papers.
  2. The provision of short courses, conferences, lectures and talks, appealing to both Christian and non-Christian audiences.
  3. The provision of up-to-date, accurate data on science, faith and social affairs for the media and the wider public.
  4. Participation in national and international collaborative research programs.

The institute was launched by Dr Lynn Arnold, CEO of Anglicare in South Australia, and a former premier of the state, and a number of distinguished visitors were present, including Professor Graeme Clark, Dr Denis Alexander of the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion in the UK, Professor Joel Green of Fuller Theological Seminary in the USA and other well-know figures from the world of science and faith.
